To keep myself motivated and focused during the continuing period of social distancing and isolation brought on by COVID-19, I decided to embark on an experimental series where I would make a new piece of artwork every day of September, October and November – 91 pieces in total.
The artworks are united through a universal theme, "God's Creatures", and each artwork is an animal portrait. To try to capture the wonderful and varied scope of animals across the globe, I have selected animals from all of the seven continents. The backgrounds of each portrait are created using alcohol inks and stencils, and then the portraits themselves are created entirely from hand cut paper. To challenge myself further and to create consistency across the series, I have primarily used seven different types of papers in seven shades - a blue, orange, brown, green, gold, black and white.
Each day I released my latest animal for sale on Facebook and Instagram, however they will not be sent to their new homes until after mid-December when I will host an exhibition in my downtown Minneapolis gallery where all 91 animals will be on display.
Below are the animals that I have created. Prints of each animal can be purchased here.
